Most wee towns have a preponderance of independent shops that you just don't get in city centres anymore: card shops, sweet shops, electrical shops, butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, clothes shops (always with the same clothes!), home furnishers. I'll confess that I don't spend a lot of time shopping in them but it makes me happy to know they're there.

Most of the time my favourites are J.D. Adam and Harry Maiden.
